What does the Transit & Dasha do?
Common mistakes people make with the Transit & Dasha
The biggest one: reading one result as the whole story. The Transit & Dasha is one lens on one chart — it gains meaning next to your lagna, your dasha and the full picture. Second mistake: acting on fear. If a result sounds scary, slow down and ask the AI Astrologer to explain it — half the time it's a weaker placement than it looked. Third: sharing birth details carelessly on random sites. Keep your data where it's respected.

A closer look at the Transit & Dasha
Dashas: the long chapters of your life
The Vimshottari dasha system divides your life into planetary chapters totalling 120 years, beginning with the lord of your birth nakshatra. Each chapter runs a fixed length — ten years for the Moon, seven for Mars, eighteen for Rahu, sixteen for Jupiter, twenty for Saturn, nineteen for Mercury, seventeen for Ketu, six for the Sun and twenty for Venus. The chapter sets the theme; the planet's placement in your chart decides how the theme plays. A Saturn dasha for a strong Saturn is a decade of steady building; for an afflicted one, a decade of tests. Inside each chapter run sub-periods, which is why one year can break the chapter's pattern.
Transits: today's sky over your chart
Transits are where the planets actually are right now, measured against your birth chart. The fast movers set the weekly weather: the Moon crosses a sign in two and a half days, the Sun in a month, Mercury and Venus in weeks. The slow movers set the years: Jupiter brings roughly a year of growth to each sign it crosses, Saturn two and a half years of structure, and Rahu-Ketu eighteen months of restless change on their axis. Gochar rules read each transit from your moon sign, which is why your rashi — not your sun sign — anchors Vedic transit readings. The tool shows both layers on one page.
When dasha and transit agree, things move
Experienced readers wait for the two layers to confirm each other before calling a period strong. A Jupiter dasha with Jupiter transiting your 10th house is a classic promotion window; a Saturn dasha with Saturn transiting over your moon is the textbook demanding season. When dasha and transit point opposite ways, the dasha — the longer chapter — usually holds the deeper theme while the transit supplies the timing of events inside it. This is why two people in the same Jupiter dasha can have very different years: one has transits cooperating, the other fighting the chapter. Check both layers before dating any plan.
Using timing without becoming fatalistic
Timing knowledge is meant to shape effort, not replace it. A favourable window raises the odds on an action you still have to take; a rough one asks for smaller steps and better margins, not for stopping life. The practical method: identify your current dasha chapter, note the sub-period running, then look at which houses the big transits — Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu — are touching from your moon sign. Launch, propose, migrate and invest when the layers cooperate; consolidate, learn and build health when they do not. If the dates unsettle you, remember the oldest rule in jyotish: the chart inclines, it does not compel.
